In the two months since I wrote to you, much has happened in our personal lives and, with the loss of a horse and a dog, I have become aware of the power of life and death we have over those in our care. Isn't it amazing that God is prepared to allow us to go our own way even when we rebel and walk away from Him? He is prepared to see people suffer in order that we may have free will and not become His puppets! Those of you who are parents will, I am sure, know what I mean when I say it is often harder to watch a child we love suffer than to suffer ourselves. Yet God has to do it all the time!
So, will you partner with us and help those in China? As you read in the recent appeal letter, there are many very poor people in China and there is poverty such as no-one knows in this country. Recent earthquakes and severe flooding have not helped. The church in China, whether it be a registered or house church has a dearth of leadership and training. The old pastors are passing to glory and new leaders are often very young - their enthusiasm does not entirely make up for experience and maturity. Did you read how recently one pastor asked for 300,000 copies of one book? Printing inside China is relatively cheap; we can print and distribute a teaching book for 71 cents. Where else will you get that kind of return for your money, banked in Heaven?
We are encouraged by an increase in enquiries from people who would like to go on teams. Remember you do not need to find a whole team; you can join one of our international teams that go to China four times a year. It is probably too late now to apply for October (though check with us for last minute availability, if you are interested), but why not use your summer break and go just after Christmas? Some of the exciting options are trekking in the mountains with tribal folk, biking in the villages and meeting up with locals, ministering to the children and poor showing God's love, and praying over the hardest areas to break up the fallow ground. Not all these teams will go in January, but why not plan for April, or July, or even October next year?
Just think, there could be a school in China where you have provided a desk or a book. There may be Chinese in heaven just because you provided the spiritual book that gave them understanding. Knowing that we care is very important to the Chinese. They greet books and gifts with tears, often saying, "You haven't forgotten us!" I love that song where a man reaches heaven and is thanked by all those whose lives he has touched, often without knowing it. I do pray that for you, and for me, there will be many lives touched and changed because of our prayers, gifts and love. Our Father knows our abilities and resources; He does not expect more than you are able to give. And we understand that for many of you that is faithful prayer rather than goods - thank you, please keep praying.

有更多人向我们询问，表示他们愿意参加短宣队伍，令我们很受激励。请记得，你不需要找到整支队伍的人员；你可以参加我们一年四次前往中国的国际队伍。现在申请参加十月份的队伍可能太迟了（不过如果你感兴趣，还是可以向我们做最後的询问！），但是何不利用你的暑假，在圣诞节之後前去？选择包括和部落居民到山区健行、在村莊间骑单车，和当地居民见面、照顾孩童和穷人以表现神的爱，以及在最刚硬的地区祷告，以打开不长莊稼的土地。并非所有的队伍都在一月份出队，但是何不为明年的四月、或七月，甚至是十月做个计画？
想想看，中国的某一所学校里，可能有一张桌子或一本书是你提供的。天堂里可能有一个中国人，是因为你提供了属灵书籍，而使他得以认识神。对中国人来说，知道我们关心他们，是很重要的一件事。他们含泪接受书籍和礼物，经常说：「你们没有忘记我们！」我喜欢一首诗歌，一个人来到天堂，所有生命曾经被他感动的人都来感谢他，而他往往是在自己不知道的时候感动了他人。我真的为你，也为我祈求这样的事，希望能有许多人的生命因为我们的祷告、礼物和爱而被感动，被改变。天父知道我们的能力和才幹；祂不会要求你做不到的事。而我们知道，对许多人而言，天父要的就是忠心的祷告，而不是货财──谢谢你，请继续祷告。
