The Bai People

The Bai people group, one of 56 officially recognised minority groups in China, has a population of over two million people. For more than 2,000 years, the Bai have inhabited Dali in Yunnan province, and today between 80 and 90 percent of the Bai still live in the Dali Bai Prefecture.

Last month the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) celebrated its 90th anniversary. Television stations showed the celebrations and plenty of "good TV dramas related to the founding of the Party" (BBC).

Floods Follow Drought

Floods brought on by torrential rain over central and southern China had left at least 170 people dead or missing by early July. Government officials described the floods as the worst since 1955 and raised the disaster alert to the highest level.

Treated Differently
