Mission at our Doorstep

Posted on 21 March 2009.

Chinese students seeking for life’s meaning are not just to be found in China. Thousands of young people are now leaving China in order to study at universities and colleges overseas.

“Please rejoice and thank God with us for the ministry among international students, particularly from China,” a supporter recently wrote to us from Australia and went on to share some stories from the outreach he is involved in.

“We took a group of 18 students together with church members for a four-day visit to a country farm. Most of the students are not Christians, and they were touched by love, hospitality and care shown to them by God's people.

Two postgraduate students and two medical researchers accepted Christ in the past eight months. The former were baptised in November. The latter returned to China in January. Another postgraduate student returned to Beijing in July and from email contact we know she is reading her Bible and experiencing God's love and presence.

Last night we had our orientation dinner for new students and about 40 new contacts came. Most of them are from China. Since the establishment of our Christian group at the university last year, over 60 new contacts have visited our church and we now have 20 regulars. I believe that many of them are very close to the Kingdom. What a wonderful opportunity and challenge for the mission field at our doorstep with the potential of sending 'missionaries' back to China.”

Thank the Lord for the faithfulness of this supporter and of many others who are reaching out to Chinese students in their home countries. Pray for God’s strength, wisdom and anointing for each person involved in such outreach.

Pray for much fruit – that students would hear the Gospel for the first time, for others to come to a deeper understanding of who the Lord Jesus is, and for many to put their faith in Jesus and become His disciples.

Ask the Lord if this is a ministry you could be involved in. Then take the first step of action: get in touch with others involved with Chinese students in your local area; contact your local college or university and offer to invite a Chinese student for a meal; ask others in your church if they would join with you to host an Easter party…
